Welcome to The Repo! 🚀
Great work deserves to be shared. Especially in data science.
Each week, I'll curate three gems from the data science community:🗄️ Re: Remarkable Repository 💻 P: Prolific Programmer 🏢 O: Outstanding OrganizationI hope you find them as valuable and insightful as I do.
You can find all recommendations in the GitHub repository at finnoh/repo!
ThinkR-open/fusen
🗄️ Repository | Create an R package by “inflating” an RMarkdown file (What?)
The R package {fusen} serves as a versatile tool bridging the gap between Rmarkdown file documentation and R package development.
It caters to both novice package developers and experienced ones. For those new to package creation but familiar with RMarkdown, {fusen} simplifies the often daunting task of understanding and setting up package infrastructure, making it an ideal starting point.
A fusen is an origami. It is a flat piece of paper that you fold in a specific way so that at the end, you can magically inflate it to let a nice box appear. — ThinkR-open/fusen
The bottom line is this: Develop your functions, application examples, test your code, and document your package in an easy RMarkdown file, where you always try out code chunk by code chunk. No dealing with the structure of an R package. Once you’re done, use fusen: Boom! Your R package, fully tested, documented, and ready to share.
Nicola Rennie
💻 Programmer | A Health Data Scientist passionate about problems & aestetics
Nicola Rennie, an academic and data scientist at Lancaster Medical School, combines her statistical prowess with a passion for problem-solving. In addition to her academic role, she offers data science insights on her blog, covering topics ranging from efficient file management with R to personalizing data visualizations using social media icons in {ggplot2}. Nicola also explores Julia through Tidier.jl, introduces her own package {ggflowchart} for process visualizations, and showcases creative data visualizations like a cracked egg infographic.
Thank you for your work Nicola!
Real World Data Science
🏢 Organization | Now with a great new template for writers!
A big thank you goes to Brian Tarran, the Editor of Real World Data Science!
Brian helped me to build a template repository for Real World Data Science, that assists new writers with creating their posts! (We even made it to the homepage).
“Welcome to the home of Real World Data Science, a new project from the Royal Statistical Society. This site and its content are being developed by data science practitioners and leaders with a single goal in mind: to help you deliver high quality, ethical, impactful data science in your workplace.” — RWDS About page
RWDS is a platform of sharing knowledge and open-source collaboration between data scientists from any domain. You can find Case Studies, Career advice, Data Science challenges, live blogs from statistics conferences, Explainers, Exercises, and much more on their website.
Some recent posts to get started with are Arshin Adib-Moghaddam's 'Is Artificial Intelligence Racist?' (Sep 6, 2023) delving into the impact of biased AI algorithms on minority communities, and discover the results of the 'Food for Thought Challenge' (Aug 21, 2023) by Brian Tarran and Julia Lane, highlighting the intersection of AI and evidence-based food and nutrition policy.
The best thing: You can write for RWDS too!
In know that many of my readers are prolific data scientists themselves, and have it in them to share their knowledge. The website is run on Quarto and together with Brian Tarran, I built a GitHub template to easily code, write, and submit your future posts.
Of course, you can always ask me for help via email: finn@ds-econ.com.
