Guidelines for collaborating on code, that often hold true

Messenger > E-Mail

1. A e.g. WhatsApp group for each project, all of your communication is in one place. Everyone has the same information at all times.

2. Sharing screenshots, links, short scripts and even data files, is easy and fast. Don’t struggle with maximum email attachement file sizes.

Quarto > Word

A framework like Quarto, is better for technical writing than word. Showcase and execute code, write down formulas with Latex; Even turning your paper into slides or a website — All of this is easy with Quarto, but a painful with Word.

GitHub > Google Drive

Even though, GitHub has an entry barrier, it is worth to invest those first few hours of trial and error, as it beats out any file synchronisation service (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, …) for coding projects.

Creating your own branches, merging code together, or even assigning specific tasks to your team-mates, all of this is already integrated in GitHub and interwoven with your favourite IDE.
